A Vernon woman was seriously injured last week on the job when she attempted to clear a meat grinder jam.
Worksafe BC says the 22-year-old lost an arm and some fingers of her other hand on April 28th when her limbs were drawn into the auger of the grinder.
Regional prevention manager Sawn Mitton says the Vernon Butcher Shop incident is being investigated.
“Typically an injury of this nature, Worksafe BC looks at a couple of key fundamental health and safety issues,” says Mitton. “One would be around the safe operation of equipment and looking at safe guarding of the equipment and lock out when it’s being used by workers.”
Mitton says the business could face compliance orders and other directives if it’s found to have not operated safely or the victim not properly trained on the equipment.
He says the woman has been strong through the ordeal and is apparently doing well.
