Vernon takes Doyle Cup in Game 7

The Vipers rode a four-goal first period en route to a 7-3 victory over the AJHL champs, the Spruce Grove Saints, to claim their second-straight Alberta-B.C. Junior "A" Doyle Cup championship.

The Saints, after winning back-to-back games on the road to even the best-of-seven series, could not complete the comeback in the seventh-and-deciding game.

The winner of the Doyle Cup moves on to compete for the Royal Bank Cup, the Junior "A" National Championship in Dauphin, Manitoba.

Vernon’s quest for a second consecutive National Championship begins on Saturday, May 1st when they face off against the host Dauphin Kings.

The Doyle Cup was donated by Penticton businessman Pete Doyle in 1984 to better define the British Columbia/Alberta Championship that had been running since 1962.
