A Kamloops, B.C., man who has admitted to fatally stabbing his father 31 times will spend at least the next 12 years behind bars.
A B.C. Supreme Court judge has handed Jaipreet Singh Toor a life sentence after the 46-year-old pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder.

Toor represented himself and had requested a minimum 10 years before parole eligibility, while the Crown was seeking 12 to 14 years in prison for the March 2012 slaying.
Toor told the court he became enraged when his father refused to give him more money after providing him with some cash earlier in the day.
Justice Sheri Donegan ruled there was no evidence Toor was suffering from a mental illness when he committed the crime.
She also found he understands the charges against him and the consequences of his guilty plea.
