CALGARY – Calgary Police have issued warrants for the arrest of a Calgary man in connection with debit card and counterfeit cheque scams worth thousands of dollars.
Sanjai Prasad, 35, of Calgary, is wanted on 22 charges such as theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000, possession of a stolen credit card, fraudulent use of credit card data, uttering a forged document, and defrauding a person of more than $5,000.
The charges stem from eight incidents dating back to January 2007, in which three Calgary financial institutions reported being defrauded of thousands of dollars.
Police say a suspect gained the trust of six different victims and convinced them to provide him with their debit card and PIN. He then allegedly deposited counterfeit or stolen cheques into their accounts and withdrew cash.
Anyone with information about the location of Prasad is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
