TORONTO – Cheerleaders at the University of Western Ontario (UWO) have been hit with a $140 ticket after an impromptu performance during homecoming festivities on Saturday.
A group of university cheerleaders were taking part in homecoming celebrations along Broughdale Avenue when they decided to break out an unscheduled display of school spirit.

“We see a lot of students there celebrating so we figure we should go down Broughdale to help promote the spirit,” Kim Fraser, a UWO cheerleader said.
Local police however, stopped the performance, claiming it blocked “a public access roadway.”
“If there was a fire at the end of that street, we wouldn’t have been able to get a fire truck down there,” Deputy Police Chief Brent Shea said.
David-Lee Tracey, the cheerleaders coach, said to be punished for something so innocent is “absolutely wrong.”
But Shea contends the street party could have escalated to a dangerous level.
“These precursors are not much different than witnessed on Saint Patrick’s day, 2012.”
The cheerleaders are considering taking the ticket to court and a law firm has stepped up to represent them.
