SASKATOON – The City of Saskatoon is flushing a water distribution system after Lawson Heights and Silverwood Heights were found to have elevated chlorine levels.
While crews were working on a primary water main in Saskatoon’s north end, a valve was left open affecting the water supply.
The city closed the affected line Monday morning and has since been flushing the water distribution system.

At its peak, tests showed 45 milligrams per litre. Normal chlorine levels in the city are 1.5 milligrams per litre.
According to Health Canada, water with chlorine up to 50 milligrams per litre consumed over a short period has not shown adverse health effects.
The Saskatoon Health Region is recommending bottled water for infants, both for consumption and bathing, as they may be more susceptible to skin and eye irritation.
City representatives will be continuously testing the water supply to ensure chlorine levels return to normal.
The system is expected to be fully flushed by the end of the day.
