Pedestrian struck and killed by car west of Edmonton

EDMONTON – A young man died early Wednesday morning when he was hit by a car at a rural intersection west of the city.

The fatal collision happened shortly after 5 a.m. where Highway 60 meets Highway 628.

A man in his 20s stepped out of the east ditch and onto the roadway and was hit by a northbound car, Stony Plain RCMP spokeswoman Const. Barbara Roy said in a news release.

“The (car) was unable to avoid the male,” she said.

The man’s name will not be released until his family is notified of his death.

The RCMP investigation is still underway, and it is not known if charges are pending.
