Abbotsford police say a cyclist is dead following a collision in the city’s downtown on Friday.

Police say the crash happened in the 2500 block of McCallum Road just after 3:30 p.m.

The male cyclist was rushed to hospital but did not survive. The driver in the collision remained at the scene and was cooperating with police.

Police were still working to confirm the cyclist’s identity.

McCallum Road was closed in both directions between Braun Avenue and South Fraser Way while collision reconstruction specialists investigated.

Police are urging people to avoid the area.

Anyone with video shot in the area immediately leading up to the crash is asked to contact Abbotsford police.
