“The residents directed us to the basement area immediately after arrival and we were able to extinguish that fire fairly quickly,” said division commander Peter Andrews.

However, firefighters did find a marijuana grow-op in the basement, and Nova Scotia Power arrived on scene to shut the power off.

Police say the residents had a permit to grow medical marijuana.

No one was arrested and no charges will be laid.
