CALGARY- A man was found unconscious at a construction site on Monday morning, after carbon monoxide filled the basement he was working in.
It happened just before noon, at a home in the 5900 block of Silver Ridge Drive N.W.
When fire crews arrived, they found one man had escaped, and another unconscious in the basement. Both were cared for by EMS, while firefighters measured carbon monoxide levels as high as 970 ppm inside.
Levels of 1,200 ppm are considered dangerous.
It’s believed the men were cutting concrete inside, using gas powered tools. People are reminded never to use gas burning power tools that are intended for outdoor use inside.
Occupational Health and Safety is now investigating.
