One person has died following a fire Monday morning in a Vancouver apartment building.
The victim, a 37-year-old, has not been identified at this time.
A woman in the same unit was also rushed to the hospital and is now expected to survive.
The fire broke out in a fourth-floor suite at 1255 Pendrell St at 6 a.m.
Forty firefighters responded and were able to contain the fire to one suite, Vancouver Fire Rescue told Global News.
The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined but the building does not have sprinklers.
Emergency Social Services is at the scene to assist other residents, Vancouver Fire Rescue added.
Vancouver Fire Chief Karen Fry said Monday afternoon that last year they had a total of five fire deaths. In 2022, they’ve already seen four.
“We don’t see this many and it worries me,” she said.
It was a tragic weekend in Vancouver due to another deadly fire.

Firefighters were called to the home near East 41st Avenue and Earls Street around 7:30 a.m., and found the basement suite fully involved.
