North Westside fire chief resigns

OKANAGAN — After being suspended for three days back in June, then going on indefinite leave later this summer, the former North Westside fire chief has resigned.

Controversy swirled back in July with rumours about turmoil at the volunteer hall. Two senior officers resigned and chief Wayne Carson went on leave.

But Carson, a 21-year vet of the department, told Global News in July he thought he would be coming back to his leading role.

However a press release issued by the Regional District of Central Okanagan states the 19-year chief has handed in his resignation.

There’s no word on what caused the change of heart, but until a new chief is named Doug Gardiner, who has taken on the interim role, will continue to fill the position.
