Nova Scotia man welding underneath car dies after vehicle catches fire

HALIFAX – Police say a man has died after the car he was working on suddenly caught fire as he welded underneath it.

RCMP say they received a call just after noon Friday that the man had been seriously injured at an auto shop in Westphal on Highway 7.

The Mounties say the preliminary investigation indicates the car caught fire quickly and became engulfed in flames as the man worked under the vehicle.

They say 58-year-old Peter Kempton of Dartmouth was taken to hospital and died Saturday morning.

Police and the Department of Labour and Advance Education are investigating.
