Body found in Stanley Park is actor Andrew Koenig

The dead body of missing American actor Andrew Koenig, the 41-year-old son of the actor who played Chekov on Star Trek, was found in Vancouver Thursday afternoon.

At a news conference, Vancouver police say Koenig’s body was found in Stanley Park 30 to 40 metres off a bridal path that is part of the park’s expansive trail network. He was found at about noon by family and friends doing a private search of a densely wooded area scoured by police Wednesday.

Police would not speak about the condition of Koenig’s body or cause of death, but ruled out foul play.

Vancouver police continue to investigate, but the case is now in the hands of the B.C. Coroners Service.

Koenig starred in the 1980s TV series Growing Pains, playing a character named “Boner.”

He never had another role that big again.

Koenig had a long history of depression and was visiting friends in Vancouver before going missing Feb. 14.

His father Walter Keonig flew to Vancouver earlier this week to appeal for help to find his son.

Koenig and his wife Judith were present at the press conference and spoke to media, but did not take questions.
