‘Bones’ star Tamara Taylor digs into her Canadian past

TORONTO — Tamara Taylor can’t believe she is in her ninth season playing Dr. Camille Saroyan on the hit series Bones.

“I was supposed to be killed off,” the Canadian actress said Friday during an appearance on Global Toronto’s The Morning Show. “I was doing a little [story] arc and now eight years later it’s just a little surreal.”

Taylor, who was born and raised in Toronto, said her character became a regular because “fans hated me and liked me just enough” and there was palpable chemistry with Bones stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel.

Nine seasons in, Taylor said the cast still looks forward to the next script.

“The writers keep it interesting,” she said. “We’re always surprised. We have no idea where we’re going.”

Taylor said landing on a prime time series was the farthest thing from her mind when she was growing up in Toronto. She described herself as a “fringe dweller” and “pariah” at the schools she attended.

“It took a long while to land in my own skin,” said Taylor, who turns 43 this month.

Acting, she explained, was a daunting pursuit.

“It scared me. It was the scariest thing ever,” she recalled. “I was actually really shy and I thought, ‘If I can do this, if I can speak in front of people, I can do anything.’ And then I caught the bug.”
