Softball Valley Flooded with problems

Soft ball valley manager Hank Stoffer says this is the third time since June softball valley has been flooded.”Everything is designed to drain the water that we are suppose to get it’s the excess that hurts us,” says Stoffer who has been managing Softball valley for 13 years now. “This is the worst flooding the area has seen in my time.”

The field was completley drenched and one of the diamonds was full of water after Wednesdays rainfall. “My concern is no one has come up with a solution as to wherethe water suppose to go,” says Stoffer. “There is no answer to that question.”

The city of Lethbridge knows the source of the problem. City officials say when construction of Scenic Drive North began so did the water woes. “They are frustrated and we don’t blame them,” says Ashley Matthews recreation and culture manager of the City of Lethbridge .”They have put their heart and should into this facility and it’s a fantastic facility and something is happnening right now that is beyond their control. We understand their frustration.”

The city of Lethbridge has come up with some temporary solutions such as putting up a fence a long the coulees to avoid silt, but Matthews says the core of the problem is the lack of vegetation and there is no where for the water to be absorbed. “Our number one goal is stop the flooding problem and restore softball valley in it’s regular state,” says Matthews. “We are looking at storm ponds up on coulees and there has been barricades put in,” says Matthews.

City officials say they plan on getting to the root of the problem, but those plans are just in the beginning stages.
