Allgood takes stand in murder trial

SASKATOON – The man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend testified in court on Tuesday.

American George Allgood is on trial, accused in the shooting death of Susan Rienhardt and injuring David Ristow in 2006

Allgood testified he felt threatened and feared for his life which forced him to make up a story about committing the murder during a Mr. Big sting.

He testified that he was telling undercover officers police what he thought they wanted to hear.

Allgood also named three witnesses who he said could support his alibi on his whereabouts on the night in question.

During cross-examination, the prosecution focused on his past legal problems in Baltimore, Maryland where he pleaded guilty around 30 years ago to second-degree murder.

The crown will continue with cross-examination when the trial resumes on Wednesday.
