SASKATOON – Phase 2 of an explicit poster campaign against sexual assault kicked off Tuesday in Saskatoon.
The Saskatoon Police Service, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, Saskatoon Sexual Assault and Information Centre, Saskatoon Crime Stoppers and the U of S launched a campaign that’s expected to spark conversation.
It’s a provocative poster stating “it’s not sex when she’s wasted. Sex with someone unable to consent = sexual assault. Don’t be ‘that’ guy.”

It makes students at the university campus feel uneasy.
“I don’t know, it’s a little off-putting” said one fourth year male student on campus.
The message is targeted at young adults aged 19 to 25.
The stark posters will greet people on campus, in the bar and in men’s washrooms throughout the city over the next year.
The initial campaign in 2011 did not result in an increase in the number of victims coming forward, according to the police service.
This campaign is more aggressive than the last.
“When young girls are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they may or may not be able to give consent and the male should be very cautious of how they approach that and they should act accordingly” said Police Chief Clive Weighill.
It is estimated that the use of drugs or alcohol plays a role in 60 per cent of reported sexual assaults but according to victim groups, many sexual assaults go unreported.
