Mayoral hopeful Adam Giambrone now admits to more ‘intimate relationships’ - image

The sex scandal surrounding TTC chairman Adam Giambrone’s mayoralty bid took another turn late Tuesday – he revealed to the Torotno Star that he has had multiple “intimate relationships” in the past year, while he was purportedly living with longtime partner Sarah McQuarrie.

In a remarkably poised statement released over the telephone telephone to the Toronto Star – which originally broke the scandal surrounding Kristen Lucas, a 20-year-old who had a relationship with Mr. Giambrone – he says:

"In an effort to bring this chapter to a close, let me say I did have intimate relationships for a period that lasted throughout most of last year with women other than my partner," he continued.

"I apologize to them for the hurt I have caused. I regret deeply not having made this full disclosure earlier, to Sarah, my partner, and to my family, my friends and my supporters as well."

Mr. Giambrone goes on: "I have broken my own moral code and offended the values I was raised with by my parents and my grandparents; those I have always tried to live by." Listen to the full statement here.

Meanwhile Kristen Lucas, the aspiring actress who blew the whistle on Mr. Giambrone, appears to have gone into hiding.

Mr. Giambrone reportedly told Ms. Lucas that his longtime partner, Sarah McQuarrie, would be at his side for “political” reasons: “It is important for the campaign,” he wrote in a text message.

With the admission there are other women like Ms. Lucas out there, this story just took a turn down the road of Tiger Woods. How long will it be before the other objects of Mr. Giambrone’s affection step forward to fill the spotlight?

The Torontoist is keeping the focus on Mr. Giambrone’s longtime partner Ms. McQuarrie.

“What is … quite striking about this situation is what it reveals about our political culture,” Torontoist notes. “Specifically, it highlights that we seem somehow still attached to the notion of the political spouse. Right or wrongly, it appears that Mr. Giambrone felt his candidacy would benefit from him having a partner by his side. He is young, he is contemporary, he represents a generational shift in the political life of our city. And yet…”
