TORONTO – Journalist and author Chrystia Freeland will represent the Liberals in the upcoming federal byelection in Toronto Centre.
She’ll go up against fellow author Linda McQuaig, who won the NDP nomination on the first ballot Sunday afternoon.
Freeland has said she’s ready to roll up her sleeves to keep the riding in Liberal hands and help craft a “compelling” vision for Canada with a focus on a new economic agenda for the country.
McQuaig is making income inequality a pillar of her coming campaign.
She says Freeland has written about the issue but isn’t offering up any solutions.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper hasn’t yet called the date of the byelection, which was triggered when former interim Liberal leader Bob Rae resigned.
