WINNIPEG — A child was in critical condition in hospital Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle on a West Broadway street.
olice said a boy was walking to school before 9 a.m. when he was struck by a van at Westminster Avenue and Langside Street near Balmoral Hall school.

A van marked “Derksen Plumbing and Heating” was stopped at the intersection, where there was also yellow police tape and evidence markers placed by investigating officers .
The accident happened the same day the Canadian Automobile Association held its safe schools campaign, highlighting hundreds of violations by drivers in school zones.
There was no word Wednesday on how the Westminster Avenue accident happened, or whether charges will be laid.
