Calgary lands on Boardwalk (for now)

CALGARY- A big pitch from a top-hatted Mayor Dave Bronconnier has landed Calgary on Boardwalk.

A day after the mayor publicly urged Calgarians vote in a Monopoly board game contest, the city is ranked first in the competition to pick which cities are featured in its next Canadian edition.

If daily votes keep it on top until the contest deadline on Feb. 7, it will feature Calgary at the most high-rent space on the board.

Calgary currently has 4.6 per cent of all votes among more than five dozen cities, slightly ahead of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., a city of 89,000 people east of Montreal.

Several Canadian mayors, like Bronconnier, have dressed up like the Hasbro game mascot to boost his city’s chances in the contest. But he’s the only one who’s a leader a million-person city, which gives Calgary an edge over its smaller rivals.
