OTTAWA – The unemployment rate in Saskatchewan edged up slightly last month.
Statistics Canada said the rate in August was 4.2 per cent, up from 4.0 per cent the previous month.
On a yearly basis, the unemployment rate dropped 0.2 percentage points from August 2012.

Nationally, the unemployment rate dropped 0.1 percentage to 7.1 per cent.
The unemployment rate in Saskatoon was 4.3 per cent, up from 3.9 per cent in July.
That was the second lowest rate for a city in the country, trailing only Regina’s 2.9 per cent, a drop of 0.6 percentage points from the previous month.
Employment in the province dropped by 600 in August, with 558,700 people working either full- or part-time.
On a year-over-year basis, employment increased by 15,100 people.
