A suspicious death investigation is underway in the town of Choiceland, Sask.
RCMP say a 37-year-old woman was found dead in the early hours of Friday morning at a residence in the community located about an hour northeast of Prince Albert.
Officers from the Nipawin RCMP detachment were dispatched at around 1:45 a.m. after a report of a deceased person at a home in the community, according to a statement from police.
RCMP and EMS arrived at the scene where the woman was pronounced dead. Police say her family has been notified.
The report states that officers arrested one individual at the scene, but police did not provide any information on the person or their connection to the deceased woman.
There is no concern for public safety, police said.
RCMP add the investigation is in its early stages, however, they say more details will be provided when available.
School letter sent to families
A letter was sent to families of William Mason School in Choiceland on Friday informing them of a “tragic event” involving a school family.
“In addition to our shared thoughts and support to the family, we are also sensitive to the impact such an event can have on other students, parents and the community,” reads the statement from Trevor Davidson, the school’s principal.
The school said it has implemented a plan to provide their student body the opportunity to receive mental health supports from trained professional staff.
“Those who do will be provided an opportunity to express their feelings and grief,” Davidson stated. “This is not intended to take the place of other professional counseling or support from their parents.”
Families are encouraged to contact the school to receive phone numbers of local agencies available to assist with further professional counseling.
