Pallsier regional school buses will be keeping a close eye on motorists

The next time yo pass a school bus when the stop sign is out and the red lights are flashing you could be on camera. The Palliser school district, RCMP and sheriff’s have teamed up and placed camera’s on 5 school buses. The photo-radar like camera’s will snap pictures of license plates when a bus has it’s stop sign out. “Up until last year there was nothing on paper saying we have an issue,” says David Shaw the Palliser regional schools transportation manager. “When we started this we would have our drivers send in incident reports when someone passes the stop arm. We had 74 reported incidents, 70 of which where people pass the stop arm.”

Palliser school officials say it has received dozens of complaints from bus drivers about motorists speeding by. The majority of bus drivers say they don’t have time to take down licence plates and the camera’s will be another set of eyes. “The idea here is to help our driver out. When they fill out a report they have to keep an eye on the students and catch a license plate number, ” says his will allow us to catch the vehicle and the number and help us with the reports,”adds Shaw.
