CALGARY – The Calgary Zoo has welcomed a unique new visitor to their facility.

Officials welcomed a “white” black bear to the zoo on Saturday, after he became a problem in the community of Elkford B.C.

Two 2 ½-year-old bears were relocated away from Elkford last year by conservation officers, but one returned to the town a few weeks ago and has been posing a danger to the public.

Officials say the bear has settled in well at the Animal Health Centre.

The zoo says while they aren’t always in a position to take in orphaned or problem animals, they are happy they were able to save the young bear from being destroyed.

The young bear will become an ambassador animal and help to educate people about how to make sure that their actions don’t result in creating problem bears in the future.
