MONTREAL – It was announced Friday morning that three sculptors, Jasmin Bilodeau, Sébastien Giguère and Nicolas Laverdiere, were chosen to build a ferris wheel at corner of Henri-Bourassa and Pie-IX.
The sculptors were given a budget of $1.1 million to construct the gigantic art work, to be ready in 2015.
The ferris wheel is set at a height of 18 meters (63 feet), with five curved silhouette cars, all splashed with different colour.

“The redevelopment of Henri-Bourassa─Pie-IX, at a cost of $55 million, aims to eliminate an aging structure and transform it into a new urban development that’s safe and friendly.” said Laurent Blanchard, Montreal mayor.
“We want to promote public transit and this work of art is a powerful symbol for us. I congratulate the team of Quebec for their boldness and creativity.”
23 years ago, the city of Montreal created the Public Art Bureau, a department that is dedicated in the acquisition, preservation, and restoration of the municipal collection of public art.
The city of Montreal now boasts a collection of 312 works of public art.
