Cpl. Chris Manseau with BC RCMP media relations said police officers were called to the scene near Legion Beach Park at approximately 11:30 p.m.

“There was a man who was suffering from some injuries from a knife wound,” he told Global News.

The man and another witness spoke with investigators before the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Manseau said police do not have a description of the suspect or suspects, however, the victim’s wife posted to a community Facebook page that a group of teenagers jumped her husband after requesting, and being denied money.

Deanna and Dave Read declined an interview with Global News out of fear of retaliation but provided additional information to a reporter over Facebook messenger.

Deanna said the stabbing happened as the pair walked home from Haynes Point on Saturday evening.

The Osoyoos resident had left her husband for a brief moment to grab a shirt from their vehicle when the altercation ensued, she said.

“I came back and he had been stabbed repeatedly and hit over the head with a longboard,” Deanna wrote.

“He has lacerations to his hip and a piece of his hip bone is chipped with the knife stab wound to his abdomen through his stomach lining. It sliced to his left pointer finger as he tried to defend himself and there is a gash to his head from the longboard.”

The motive for the possible stabbing has not been confirmed by the police.

The Read’s declined to provide photos of the reported injuries.

It’s believed Deanna and Dave Read made it to a private home on Spruce Court in Osoyoos and that’s where paramedics responded.

“We dispatched two ground ambulances and one patient was taken to hospital in serious condition,” a BC Emergency Health Services spokesperson said.

Details were slim on Sunday as Manseau was unable to immediately speak with investigators assigned to the file.

Manseau is urging witnesses in the area of Legion Beach Park after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday evening to contact Osoyoos RCMP.
