Search and water rescue team recover body from Henderson lake

The body of an unknown man who witnesses say disappeared into Henderson Lake Wednesday night, was recovered by the Lethbridge Fire Department Dive Team Thursday morning. Platoon Chief Ken Mercer says that two witnesses called 911 around 11:30 last night after they saw the man go under the surface of the water. ” They did the right thing by calling for help and not going into the water, as Henderson is extremely murky with almost zero visibility, meaning you need to have significant training to attempt such a rescue.”says Mercer.

Mercer explained that their divers searched by feel because it’s so difficult to see. When emergency crews arrived they conducted a search on the water where the man was last seen, but were not able to locate him and a K9 search was also unsuccessful. The search later resumed until thursday morning. It only took search teams about a half hour to recover the body.

Lethbridge Regional Police will continue to investigate and will not release further details until the man has been identified and his family is contacted.
