Canada election results: Yukon

Liberal candidate Brendan Hanley is projected to win in the riding of Yukon.

Hanley edged out Conservative candidate Barb Dunlop by just over six per cent of the vote.

The Liberal previously served as the chief medical health officer for Yukon, playing a key role in the territory’s COVID-19 response.

He faced criticism for leaving his role to run in the federal campaign as the pandemic continued to impact daily life.

Hanley will take over for longtime MP Larry Bagnell, who was first elected in 2000 and held onto the seat for nearly that entire time — save for a 2011 loss to the Conservatives.

Nearly 24 per cent of the riding identifies as Aboriginal, with 19.1 being First Nations.

Candidates

Liberal: Brendan Hanley

Conservative: Barb Dunlop

NDP: Lisa Vollans-Leduc

Green: Lenore Morris

Independent: Jonas Jacot Smith
