Two major Kingston attractions are opening this week.
Kingston Pen and Fort Henry will start offering tours this week. Both are allowed to commence during Stage 1 of the province’s reopening plan, which launched Friday, but with modification.
The guided tours at Canada’s oldest penitentiary will start Wednesday, and will only run outdoors, while Fort Henry will open this coming Saturday, with outdoor activities only.
For Kingston Pen, tour groups will be limited to 10 people and masks will be required.
Each tour is 1.5 hours long and will focus on escapes, riots, the history of the prison and the daily routine of the historic institution while it was in operation.
The tours will also feature stories from former Correctional Service Canada staff.
Fort Henry will be offering one-hour-long self-guided tours, which will feature rifle firing, music, artillery demonstrations and the Fort Henry guard.
Fort Henry is encouraging people to bring masks and their own personal protective equipment.
Tickets for the both attractions tours must be bought in advance online.
