Global News is projecting Liberal MP Mark Holland has been re-elected for another term in the riding of Ajax.

The riding of Ajax is located in the Regional Municipality of Durham and comprises the town of Ajax.

The riding was formerly known as Ajax-Pickering before being renamed Ajax in the 2015 election after the 2012 electoral boundaries redistribution.

Holland held the seat from 2004 until 2011, when he was defeated by Conservative Chris Alexander, who won with 44.1 per cent of the vote.

Holland ran in 2015 to regain his seat and won with 55.9 per cent of the vote. He won with 57.7 per cent of the vote in the 2019 federal election.

Over his years in office, Holland has been an advocate for marriage equality rights, played a key role in helping to reform Canada’s animal cruelty laws and supported the prison farm system.
