AMHERST, N.S. – Former Nova Scotia MP Bill Casey says he is on the mend after suffering two heart attacks on the same day this month.
The 68-year-old told the Amherst Daily News that both attacks happened Aug. 2 while he was at his cottage near Tidnish, N.S.

Casey says he was preparing to go diving and snorkeling when he started feeling funny.
He says he was taken to hospital in Amherst and later transferred to Halifax where he underwent a procedure to have two stents put in his chest.

The long-time politician served as a Conservative and Independent MP for Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley until 2009.
He was later named Nova Scotia’s senior representative in Ottawa, a position he held until last year.
Casey previously battled melanoma and prostate cancer.
