EDMONTON – The Edmonton Police Service is investigating the discovery of a body at a paper recycling facility near 148 Street and 128 Avenue Friday.

Police were called to the Capital Paper Recycling Ltd. building Friday morning to look into the incident.

“At roughly 10 o’clock today we received a complaint call from Capital Recycling location here,” says Acting Inspector Jerry Nash, with EPS.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“As a result of their nightly pick-ups through a variety of different locations across the city, materials, recycling materials were dropped off. As they were going through the inventory of the material, they discovered a human body, deceased. As a result – of course – contacted us.”

Edmonton police say this is the second time in recent years that a body has been located at this recycling plant.

The last incident was deemed non-criminal after an autopsy was completed.

“Nothing immediately appears to be foul play,” adds Nash, about Friday’s investigation, “but, as we do with any type of investigation of this sort, we notified Homicide Section who’s currently responding.”

“At this point we don’t know if the body is actually male or female because the body is still covered up quite exclusively by the recycling material.”

The police investigation could be as short as a few hours unless foul play is detected.
