SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan (U of S) announced this morning that approximately 248 vacant and filled positions have been eliminated since last November.
The move is part of a broader cost-cutting measure to shore up the university’s self-projected $44.5 million annual deficit in its operating budget.

Workforce cuts are expected to save the school $8.5 million by 2016.
Officials say this marks the end of the school’s “workforce adjustment period,” meaning no other job cuts are anticipated in the near future.
Affected employees seeking additional support have been asked to make use of the university’s employee assistance program.
In March, tuition increases averaging 4.5 per cent were approved by the U of S board of governors. New tuition revenue was projected at $6 million in 2013-14.
