The privacy commissioner has cleared the BC Liberals and Premier Christy Clark in the ethnic outreach scandal.

Commissioner Elizabeth Denham says her office did not find evidence of personal information being shared between the government and the BC Liberals as contemplated in the “Multicultural Strategic Ethnic Outreach Plan.”

“Our investigation did not find evidence that information was shared between government and the B.C. Liberal Party,” says Denham.

“However, it did reveal the exchange of government information using personal email accounts, particularly among individuals in government departments who have roles closely tied to the governing party.”

The commissioner made five recommendations to help the provincial government better manage personal information.

She also released a document outlining appropriate use of personal e-mail for government business.
