REGINA- The 2017 football season can’t come soon enough for Roughrider fans.

“It’s about time and it’s exciting! We see the new Winnipeg stadium and it’s beautiful but we’re going to make this stadium Regina-style and make it even better,” said Marc Cyrenne, a football enthusiast.

Many Regina residents were eager to learn about the construction process at the information sessions held on Thursday night and Saturday afternoon. This gave them an opportunity to see the schedule for the construction process.

The city highlighted the buildings they’ll be knocking down and the relocation of utilities. One of the main concerns for residents who live near the Evraz Place was parking.

“There’s an education element to this, having people carpool, using park and ride programs, and using shuttle options. There are a number of things we need to look at over the next few years to try to accommodate some of the things that exist right now,” said Rod Schmidt, manager of stadium development.

Meanwhile, the North Central Community Association was concerned about their Go Green partnership with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. One hundred and fifty people are hired each year to clean up the recycling after games. Part of the profits goes towards improving the community.

“Our piece going forward is here we have this huge economic engine in our community, therefore what’s the benefit to the neighbourhood and how do residents that are unemployed participate in this new booming economy?,” said Rob Deglau, a representative from North Central Community Association.

The city’s next big step for the new stadium is to demolish the Jubilee, Heritage and the Saskatchewan building. Then in 2014, water, sewer and storm lined will be installed.
