WEST KELOWNA — Nearly a week after closing due to fire, the northwest section of Kalamoir Regional Park has been re-opened.
A fire in the park Saturday evening charred grass, shrubs and trees, making it unsafe for users.
“Since Tuesday night, when West Kelowna Fire Rescue turned control of the area back to the Regional District, Regional Parks workers have made repairs to the Mike Passmore trail which passes through the .6-hectare area that was damaged by the quickly spreading grass fire” says Regional District of Central Okanagan Communications Officer, Bruce Smith.

“As well, potential hazards have been removed and fire guards have been remediated.”
Officials confirm the blaze was human caused, believed to be sparked by fireworks.
“Everyone is reminded that smoking, campfires or fires of any kind are not allowed in any Regional Park. Violators could be ticketed and receive a fine of $100.00 in addition to causing a serious fire” says Smith.
The RDCO cautions residents the fire danger rating in the Okanagan is extreme.
