Alberta RCMP initially warned people Tuesday night to stay away from an “ongoing incident” in an area east of Plamondon and west of Lac la Biche.

In an update Wednesday morning, police said the RCMP Emergency Response Team and RCMP Air Services were searching for Darren Larose, 35, of Caslan, Alta.

Police were focusing their search on a rural area near Range Road 162 and Township Road 670, south of Plamondon.

Police said the man fled into a wooded area after a pursuit with police late Tuesday night.

Residents in the area have been asked to leave their homes as a precaution by police.

In a news release issued on Thursday, police said they had still not located Larose and continue to ask for tips on his whereabouts.

RCMP said Larose is wanted for attempted murder in connection with an alleged robbery at a residence in Caslan on Oct. 26 that reportedly involved a gun.

Larose is described as being five-foot-11-inches tall and 200 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes, with a tattoo under his right eye. Police said he was wearing dark pants and a sweater.

Residents are asked to avoid the area and call Lac la Biche RCMP at 780-404-2500 if they see anyone hitchhiking near Highway 55 or anything suspicious.

Plamondon is located about 200 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
