We are mourning the loss of a Hamilton broadcasting legend.
Norm marshall, who anchored CHCH News at Six for more than 20 years died suddenly at his home in Burlington Wednesday.
Adam Atkinson gives us a look back at the life of a man so many people tuned in to watch every night.
Norm Marshall joined CHCH Television when the station went on the air in 1954.
But his broadcasting career started before that. Marshall's voice landed him a job at CKTB in St Catharines before moving to Hamilton's CHML in 1940.
Norm was a sports fan as well, and spent 25 years covering university college football broadcasts for CHCH.
Marshall called the play-by-play during the first televised Grey Cup game on CBC in 1952. He was also the voice of the Ontario Hockey Association's Hamilton Red Wings in the 1960's.
"I found he mentored a lot of young people in the broadcast business, I worked with him at CHML in the old days, he was always a spark plug there."
Movie critic Alex Reynolds says Norm is the reason he's happily married today.
"I always credit Norm with introducing Eileen and I and that was 48 years we've been married. I credit him for that."
Norm Marshall spent more than 30 years in front of the camera at CHCH before lending his expertise to broadcasting students such as Connie Smith, Matt Hayes, and Bill Kelly at Mohawk College.
"Here was a guy who was one of the all-time greats in broadcasting, willing to lend his expertise and talent. He wasn't just an instructor, he was a friend to us. He was one of these guys who creates lifelong memories for all of us."
Norm leaves behind his wife Helen, daughter Janice, and sons Michael and William.
Norm Marshall was 89.
