DARTMOUTH – Two men charged in the 2010 murder of Donald Chad Smith made a brief court appearance Thursday.
Randy Desmond Riley, 21, of Dartmouth, and Nathan Tremain Johnson, 21, of Cherry Brook were both charged with first-degree murder.
Both men hid their faces as they exited the Halifax Regional Police transport vehicle. They were charged late Wednesday night at police headquarters.
The charges come nearly three years after Smith was shot dead in Dartmouth.
He had been hired to deliver pizzas for a local restaurant early in October 2010. Smith had been working for two weeks, when an order was placed on October 23, 2010 for a delivery to 15 Joseph Young St.

Neighbours say around 9:30 p.m. they heard a gunshot and found Smith lying in an alley.
Police began their investigation but were unable to lay any charges. The case was added to the province’s major unsolved crimes program, with $150,000 reward offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
On Wednesday the two Nova Scotia men were arrested and charged. A third man was arrested in a location outside the province that police have not disclosed. He was released without charges.
Riley and Johnson have been remanded until Aug. 27 when they will return to court to set dates for a preliminary inquiry.
