Several residential units under construction in a Kitchener neighbourhood caught fire on Monday night, prompting nearby residents to be evacuated from their homes.
Emergency crews were called to the construction site on Morrison Road, just north of King Street East and west of Freeport Hospital, just around 8 p.m.
A spokesperson for the City of Kitchener said it took about an hour to get the fire under control with a few remaining hotspots to address.
He said that around eight units under construction were destroyed by the fire.

Police say that around five occupied units on Manor Avenue were also damaged as a result of excessive heat from the blaze.
The spokesperson said the fire is estimated to have caused $2 million damage.
A 12-second video posted on Reddit appeared to capture large, intense flames from a backyard close by.
An unknown number of people living close to the site had to be evacuated. There were no reports of any injuries as of Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday morning, police said the Kitchener Fire Department was still working with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office to determine the cause of the fire.
