Fire victim claims someone robbed his burnt up home

KELOWNA — Life has gone from bad to worse for a Kelowna man displaced by a recent apartment fire.

Jeremy Oldendorf, a resident of Bristol Garden apartments, claims someone entered his fire ravaged condo and stole multiple items.

The Kelowna RCMP is now investigating.

Oldendorf says a small amount of cash and his roommate’s coin collection were taken, but what cuts the deepest is that thieves took a family heirloom, a custom made gold ring handcrafted by his grandfather during WWII.

He says he’s spoken with three other people who’ve also had possessions stolen from their apartments. However, RCMP officials say they have not received any other theft reports.

The building’s manager says he was notified of the alleged thefts today. He says a security company was hired to protect the condos and that everyone allowed in to the complex had to sign in and be escorted to and from their suites.

The security company declined to comment.

Oldendorf is now just hoping his plea doesn’t go unanswered and that his precious heirloom is returned. He provided Global Okanagan with this sketch:
