Vancouver Canucks release 2013-2014 schedule, kicking off in San Jose

The Vancouver Canucks released their 2013-2014 regular season and pre-season schedule Friday.

The Canucks regular season will kick off on Oct. 3 in San Jose against the Sharks, followed by their home opener on Oct. 5 against the Edmonton Oilers.

The team said in a statement the schedule is highlighted with a number of marquee match-ups at Rogers Arena, including the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 12, the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 2, the Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 7 and the Heritage Classic versus the Ottawa Senators on March 2.

This season the Canucks will also travel for the first time in franchise history to play the Jets in Winnipeg.

The 30 NHL teams have been reconfigured into a four-division system, with the Western Conference comprised of two seven-team divisions.

The Eastern Conference will be split into two eight-team divisions.

All teams will visit each arena at least once during the season.

Vancouver will play in the same division as Anaheim, Calgary, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Jose.

Within the division the Canucks will play three home/two away against two teams, two home/three sway against two teams and two home/two away against one team.

The Canucks will go on 15 road trips and play 15 home stands. Their longest road trip will consist of seven away games in Oct. The Canucks longest home stand ranges six games in November.
