Edmonton Oilers season schedule released

Edmonton – The Edmonton Oilers will play their first game of the 2013-14 season at home against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, October 1st.

The season opener will mark the first time the Jets will play in Edmonton since returning to the NHL.

The upcoming campaign will be the inaugural season for the NHL’s realigned format, which will have every team play each other at least twice.

The Oilers will play 29 games against their newly aligned opponents – Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks and Phoenix coyotes. Edmonton will face each team in their division five times, except the Kings, who the Oilers will face four times.

The Oilers will play three games against the rest of the Western Conference teams, for a total of 21 games.

Edmonton will play 32 games against Eastern Conference teams, which will see the teams play one home and one away game.

Because of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, the Oilers will play only five games in February.
