TORONTO – Residents of a Mississauga high rise have been allowed to return home and power has been restored to their building after a two-alarm fire forced them out of their units early Friday morning.
Fire crews responded to a call at 50 Mississauga Valley Blvd. around 1 a.m. to discover an electrical fire on the third floor of the apartment complex.
The fire was extinguished but at least four people were taken to hospital for various smoke related injuries.
A large area of the building had to be sealed off and the high-rise was evacuated.
The Red Cross was on scene to provide water and supplies to residents. Several buses were also made available but a number of people also chose to sleep on grass in front of the building for a portion of the evening.
Emergency officials on scene say some residents were transported to Mississauga Valley Community Centre.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
