N.B. man’s mock arrest marriage proposal is a YouTube hit

SAINT JOHN, N.B. – A Saint John couple has taken a huge step in their relationship in rather dramatic fashion.

It was a proposal Marcia Belyea and Ben Vienneau won’t soon forget.

Vienneau wanted to find an original way to pop the question.

So, with the help of some officers, who are friends of his, he staged a mock arrest.

It was all caught on video and so far has garnered well over 100,000 hits on YouTube and media outlets across North America have been contacting the couple for interviews

In the video the couple gets pulled over with Belyea driving. She is informed by the officer that she has $2,000 in unpaid fines and could face up to 30 days in jail.

The officers take her to the back seat of the police car, where she starts to cry.

“I just wanted to give her a big hug I felt so bad” said Vienneau.

The officer goes back to the groom to be and tells him it’s time to pop the question.

“Ben has a big smile on his face and I’m thinking ‘Why are you so happy? I’m crying.”

A teary-eyed Belyea didn’t hesitate to say “yes” and Vienneau quickly placed the ring on her finger.

Belyea admitted for a quick second she was angry.

“I’m not mad, I mean it was original and it wasn’t cheesy. So, both of those are good to me,” she said.

This video has been submitted to a CHSJ radio contest, calling for original and wacky proposals.

The winner will get a $20,000 wedding package.
