Mayor William Steinberg notes that as terrible as the train derailment’s consequences have been on Lac-Megantic, they would have been even worse had the incident occurred in a metropolitan area like Montreal, Toronto, or Vancouver.
Steinberg notes that this request has been made by Hampstead residents for several years now. For other cities hoping to avoid a Megantic-type of disaster to rely on good fortune now would be irresponsible, he added.
