Bell tower celebrates 10 years

It is a sight and sound that draws people to Mission Hill Winery in West Kelowna, and it was 10 years ago this weekend the winery’s famous bell tower was complete.

The four bells atop the 12-storey tower symbolize the living dream of winery owner Anthony von Mandl.

Each bell represents a member of the von Mandl family; the largest at seven feet tall and weighing more than 1,600 pounds represents his father.

Von Mandl says the bells help the Okanagan bridge the past and the future and give the valley something to celebrate.

The bell tower holds the only ringing bells at any winery in the world; they ring once every 15 minutes and play a song every day at 12 pm and 5 pm.
