Firefighters got a break from the weather last night and were able to contain a 30 hectare wildfire near Okanagan Falls.

The fire broke out yesterday afternoon and spread rapidly, pushed by strong winds. Luckily the winds died down in the evening and crews were able to work throughout the night on building fire guards.

There are a number of homes in the area, but none of them are considered to be at immediate risk.

The Ministry of Forests has about 50 firefighters on scene, along with one helicopter. Another helicopter is on standby and can be used for bucketing if required.

Members of the Okanagan Falls Volunteer Fire Department are assisting.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
